Fiber will be constipating unless lots of fluids are also consumed.

• Eat a wide variety of fibrous foods in reasonable quantity.

• Look for food containing “whole grains,” “whole wheat,” “whole oats,” when selecting breads and cereal.

• Eat fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Each has more useful fiber in this state than peeled, cooked, pureed or processed.

Milk offers no dietary fiber. One slice of white bread offers only 0.8 fiber gram.

Lacy Peanut Crisps

1/2 light com syrup

1/2 cup chunky-style peanut butter

1/3 cup margarine

1 cup quick or old fashioned oats, uncooked

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces, melted

Bring com syrup to a boil in 2quart saucepan over medium heat. Add peanut butter and margarine; continue cooking over low heat, stirring constantly, until peanut butter and margarine are melted and well blended. Remove from heat; stir in oats, brown sugar and flour. Drop by level teaspoonfuls, about 3 inches apart, onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit 10-12 minutes. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet; gently remove with metal spatula. Cool; drizzle chocolate over cooled cookies. Yields about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
