Rappahannock County High School students from Don Bothberger’s art class and Cindy Wayland’s French III class experienced a one of a kind exhibition at the National Gallery in Washington, D. C., on March 21. The students viewed the exhibition called the “The New Fainting—Impressionism 18741886." The name “New Painting” meant paintings which were not acceptable during that time period in the official art salons.
Mrs. Way land explained the background of this exhibit. “At the end of the 19th century art was changing. They were moving away from realistic representation art. The Impressionists were more concerned with light and color and the effects of these on canvas.”
