“Mine hojeste onsker er off be good to English,” wrote Maybrit Larsen of Ostbirk, Denmark.
Rappahannock County Elementary School seventh graders Holly Moffett and Michelle Ramey have become Maybrit’s pen pals this year. Classmates Michele Raynor, Jan Hitt and Matthew Eidson have Danish pen pals also. These students are in Mrs. Lynne Baines’ reading class.
Mrs. Baines explained, “My students expressed an interest in Thomas and it was by coincidence that Thomas’ mother teaches seventh grade in Denmark. So I asked her if she had any students who would be interested in being pen pals with some of my students.” Thomas is a Danish exchange student residing with the Baines’ for the year.
“The Danish students learn and use* * conversational English; however, they don’t get a lot of chances to write English,” Mrs. Baines continued. “So the correspondence is good for them, too.”
Holly and Michelle described their pen pal. “She is 13 years old, has brown hair, and blue eyes. Her birthday is 16-2 (Feb. 16)- Her favorite food is fondue but she doesn’t
