Close behind the Rappahannock pair — only .3 second slower in fact —was the Middleburg Hunt team of Kate Shields on Uplands Commodore and Allison Hall on Backwards.
Only three seconds the other side of the optimum time, with a time of 9:55 minutes, was the Old Dominion Hounds team of Harriet Richold on Korawi and Jeanie McNear on Cadwaller Jones.
The junior division had only two finishers. First place went to Piedmont’s Jill Waterman, daughter of steeplechase trainer Randy Waterman, riding Tennessee, and Heather Beargie on Puff Ball with a time of 11:07 minutes. The pair did not get around the course without incident, however, as Miss Beargie almost fell when her mount took off too early for one fence and clipped the top of it.
Second-placed junior team was the Blue Ridge Hunt team of Sarah Pillion on Famley Lettuce and Lela Shields on Vamdell Desiree with a time of 11:18.2 minutes.
Next week’s Loudoun Hunt * Point-to-Point at Oatlands on Sunday has no pairs races. There will, however, be pairs races on Saturday when the Bull Run Hunt holds its first hunter pace event at Greenville Farm near Haymarket.
