Del. Jay Katzen reported that after two of the public meetings by the Governor’s Commission on Championship Schools he was impressed with activities going on in schools he had visited and the public was pleased with the process that had been started even if they held conflicting views on what ,should be done.
The commission visited Wise County and Fairfax County last week. They spent a day at each location, visiting schools and meeting with people in public education before conducting public hearings in the evenings.
In Wise County they visited a vocational center where students can learn everything from printing to cosmetology, he said. He reported that he was impressed with the center and schools visited in Northern Virginia, and pleased with the “quality of education going on in buildings that are far from new.” v
