Oliver North was never exonerated when his convictions were overturned, he weaseled off on a technicality. For the record: he was convicted of lying to Congress, falsefying records, and accepting gifts (money) for personal use while still a government employee. No court has ever ruled that the evidence used to convict him wks not valid.
• Oliver North has lied about: private meetings with Ronald Reagan that never occurred, private meetings with CIA Director Casey that never occurred, the arms he sold the Contras—they had to buy them at inflated prices and many of them turned out to be defective, and his length of service in Vietnam and what rank he held while there.
• Oliver North’s candidacy is opposed by such men as Gen. Colin Powell, Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf and Admiral William Crowe. The following people worked with North in the Reagan administration and considered him untruthful: George Schultz, Casper Weinberger, Robert McFarland, Elliott Abrams, James Webb and Ronald Reagan. Nobody in the private sector could get a job with these kinds of references from their former employers and co-workers, so why should the citizens of Virginia hire Ollie North to be our Senator.
At least Chuck Robb has admitted his past wrongs and apologized for them. There doesn’t seem to be one contrite bone in Ollie North’s whole body. On November 8th re-elect Senator Robb and defeat Ollie North’s arrogance and untruths.
