free status, they either must originate from a certified free herd, which takes a year to accomplish, or must be going to a feed yard that only ships cattle out to slaughter. Having cattle go to slaughter is the loophole for non-TB free states to export cattle. Another loophole is that buyers can simply break the law, knowing that some states do not have tight supervision of their borders.
Since we will be at least two years without the luxury of TB free status, folks who want their cattle to move freely and without restriction, can go about having their herd established as certified TB free. You would have to be large enough to put together trailer load lots and merchandize them as having this special status. If sold in graded sales, there is no advantage since cattle are comingled.
