They have postponed building i, the additional building that was approved by the Board of Supervisors when they bought 10 additional acres and received commercial zoning for it. They still plan to build there, but later, when it will put less strain on cash reserves. In the meantime it holds employee parking and a new drainfield.
To take advantage of the infrastructure already in place and planned, they are considering starting or buying an additional catalog business, one that will bring in more spring and summer sales, perhaps focusing on gardening and summer outdoor activities.
“I like to try to make it the kind of company I would like to work at as an employee,” Mrs. Woodard said. “We want to encourage people to excel.”
“It’s been really exciting; it’s been good to us,” Mr. Woodard said.
Not only is the company growing, it’s also becoming increasingly profitable. They operate on two mottos: “Manage for profit; build for growth” and “The customer is always right.” So far that has been a very successful strategy.
