a demonstration on working feeder cattle using the new covered facility at Arcadia Farm. The demonstration will include working six to eight weaned calves, giving them a variety of different implants-Ralgro, Synovex, Compudose and Calfold, also deworming, how to treat for grubs, and vaccinations.
Representatives of the product companies will be on hand to describe the merits and purpose of each product demonstrated.
Thus will be followed by a beef BBQ and fixings provided by the sponsors.
Muscling and Cutability
On Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. at the Culpeper Agricultural Exterprises, a dinner and seminar will be held on the topic “Muscling and Cutability.” Randall Updike, Marketing Consultant, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, will address why muscling is important to the seedstock producers. Bill McKinnon, Livestock Specialist, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and Jim Johnson with the Virginia Cattleman’s Association will address “Marketing Trends and Update.” This should be a good time to get first-hand information on the tuberculosis situation in Virginia.
