Peter Skowronski and Charlie Tompkins were appointed to the Washington Town Council last week, to fill vacancies left by Janice Moffett and Newbill Miller.
Ms. Moffett resigned last month, and Mr. Miller was ineligible to remain on the council because he moved out of the town on Oct. 2. j At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Miller said that five of the candidates running for council during the last election ran “loosely aligned,” and “I would urge you to appoint council people to fill these seats with the same philosophy.”
Reinhardt Lynch asked Mayor Stew Willis about his decision to discontinue tape recording the council meetings, and asked that a vote be taken. A motion to continue taping the meetings passed on a 3-2 vote. Mayor Willis had said that the tape recording has become more of a public issue and that he thought it was a bad idea. He said he wanted the notes of the meeting to be the minutes, and not the recording. Town Attorney Frank Reynolds offered to be in charge of the tape recorder.
