They say they must come by the entrepreneurial spirit naturally. Both have parents who started their own businesses.

The Faith Mountain Store developed a loyal following of customers who then asked if they could order things by mail, and so they started the mail order company. Mr. Woodard sold his stone masonry business to work full-time with the Faith Mountain Company. It has grown into a $15 million business.

Business at the store grows each year also but not as quickly as the mail order business, and store sales now account for three percent of sales. Nevertheless both Woodards feel the store is a very important part of the business.

Both agreed that although Mrs. Woodard is the President of the company and its spokesperson, it has always been a true partnership. Mr. Woodard’s title is now Vice President of Marketing and Merchandizing, but between them they do whatever needs doing. Mrs. Woodard said her husband is her “marketing genius.” There are also vice presidents for finance and operations.

It’s a complicated business. The company now employs nearly 100 people, some part time, and many full time. Starting with the people who handle incoming calls, little is left to chance. The goal is satisfying the customer. To keep from having
