Peter Hombostel of Washington, D.C. and Sperryville will speak at the “Friday at the Library” program for November. This will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4 at the County Library.
Mr. Hombostel is an attorney at Cameron and Hombostel, a firm specializing in work for the Republic of Brazil, and he will discuss developments in Brazil today. In the national election for president held Oct. 3 Henrique Cardoso, the former finance minister, won an outright victory, precluding the need for a runoff election. In the past three months he has helped stabilize Brazil’s economy, greatly reducing the unflation rate.
Brazil is South American’s largest country, larger than th lower 48 United States. It is Portuguese speaking, and now economically development. However, about 100 million of its 150 million population live in poverty and the society is plagued by violence and corruption.
