Mr. Nussbaum decided no such thing. He decided that not all of the papers were relevant. Big difference between “all” and “not all.” It’s a familiar solecism. So is “sworn affidavit” (Aug. 31), but this sort of familiarity ought not to be familiarat The New York Times.
All the foregoing literary offenses might be overlooked—mere flecks of dandruff on a velvent dollar—but more in sorrow than in anger I must report an offense far too egregious ever to be condoned. Headline, Sept. 11: “Where Versailles Grew Its Veggies.” VEGGIES? Veggies! In the gardens of the Sun King we find veggies? How are the mighty fallen in the midst of battle! My eyes fill up with tears, and I can say no more.
