In Annandale they had a briefing by high school students in a peer mediation program that is ongoing. They visited Bailey Elementary School in Fairfax, a school with a large number of students who have come to the United States with little English background. “There was an incredible diversity of language and national origin. We were all very impressed with how well the youngsters were getting along,” he said, noting that the school had a lot of computers and “technological opportunities.”
They also visited Page Traditional School in Arlington County, a school requested by parents who wanted their children taught in traditional self-contained classrooms. The parents persuaded the School Board to reopen a school building that had been closed
