Much of the music ot our region has evolved from its roots in the Irish and Scottish traditions. Allison Hampton will also play the haunting Celtic harp solo. The Coolin, one of the great Irish airs. Finally, there will be presentations of short readings from the poetry of William Butler Yeats (The Second Coining) and of Seamus Heaney (The Given Note).
Barnes and Hampton play several authentic Celtic instruments: the Celtic harp and guitar, lute, banjo, Uillean pipes (Irish bagpipes) and mandolin. They tour nationally and internationally.
Their celebrated performances of Celtic music at Christmas in the Dumbarton Oaks concerts are a tradition in Washington, D.C.
