Although considered by many to be a premier building material, the stuff of tiles is very simple. Tile is made of two of nature’s most common materials — water and earth — which are then dried, then transformed by fire. The resultant ceramic tile is used architecturally to provide a smooth, finished surface to an area.
The word tile comes from the Latin verb tegere, meaning to cover.
The design possibilities are endless with tiles. Basic as they are, they come in a myriad of glazes, sizes and shapes.

Once you’ve decided to decorate with tiles, you may find yourself challenged to come up just the perfect combination of color and shape to achieve that one intrinsic graphic arrangement. Using tiles in a pattern continues to be a powerful design element, but your final design can be compelling without being complex.
