Raffle f°r Disaster Relief

Local horsemen and the Horse N Hound in Flint Hill are sponsoring a raffle. Proceeds will be donated to the New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief fund, do International Association of Firefighters.

The prize is a Horseware brand Rhine heavy weight turnout blanket or a Horse N Hound gift certificate. Tickets are $5 and are available at Horse N Hound. Drawing is Oct. 20. Call 675-1650 for more information.

Rapidtran will not operate

Rapidtran transportation services will not operate on Monday, Oct. 8 in observance of Columbus Day. Rapidtran is a program of the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board.

Fourth wine festival set

The fourth annual wine festival will be held at Sharp Rock Vineyards on Saturday, Oct. 6 from noon until 5 p.m. and will include an afternoon of wine tasting and gourmet treats. This year’s festival will feature local apples, pates, Summerfield venison sausage, Our Lady of Angel’s country cheese along with other gourmet cheeses and salads. Pumpkin carving contest set

A pumpkin carving contest sponsored by the Rappahannock County 4-H Adult Leaders Association will be held on Oct. 31. Bring your carved pumpkin to the front of the Washington Arts Building on Gay Street (location of the Extension Office) between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Carved pumpkins will be judged in the following age divisions: 5-8 years, 9-12 years, 13-16 years, and 17 years and older.

Categories in the divisions will be the scariest pumpkin, the funniest pumpkin, and most original pumpkin. Winning pumpkins will receive a ribbon and recipients will receive a special “sweet” surprise. For more information call the Extension Office at 675-3619. All pumpkins must be removed by 9 p.m.
