Approximately oooo pounds of unused pesticides were safely removed from 15 farms and one Agricultural Business in the County.

Extension agents play an integral role in the program by collecting information on pesticides in their communities requiring disposal. They determine the agricultural producers and companies who want to participate, often do on-site visits to make further assessments, and help coordinate collection of these materials.

Between 1990-1998, close to 640,000 pounds of pesticide waste was collected from over 1,500 participants during the initial round of collections in all Virginia localities. The program was continued in a maintenance phase to visit all Virginia localities a second time to remove pesticides that were not collected in previous years.
