Cured wood has been dried in the air for at least six months. Look at the center of the log: if it has cracks that look like spokes in a wheel, it’s a cured log.
Before the cold weather sets in, chimneys must be checked and cleaned. This can be a do-it-yourself affair, or it can be done by a professional chimney sweep (check the yellow pages under “chimney” for local companies).
