1 he walnut is a very familiar nut to all of us. It has a fla. vor of its own, and especially ! good in fudge and walnut cakes. It is much easier to buy the walnut kernels instead of the long process required to crack your own.
This process started with choosing which tree had good walnuts. They are not good on every tree every year. Then they had to be picked up and hulled. Your hands would become very stained even using rubber gloves. We found the best way was to put them in the driveway and run over them several times with the vehicle. You could then pick the hulled walnuts up without to much trouble. Then they had to be dried in a single layer to prevent them from molding.
