Hostetler makes a point of planting larger bulbs in groups of one type and color. Clumps are repeated throughout the garden to give a sense of rhythm. She advises a clump of one type is much more effective than one here and one there.
With bulbs being such an inexpensive way to add color to the garden, Hostetler says, “More is better.”
Upsizing
If you plan to add larger landscape features like trees and shrubs to your property, be sure to dig the proper size hole, remove or spread apart all wrappings from the rootball and keep mulch well away from the trunk.
Water the new plantings well, but stop watering deciduous trees once their leaves drop. Evergreens can be sprayed with an anti-desiccant to cut down on winter wind burn.
As more gardeners use fall as their primary planting season, more resources will become available.
