surrounded the airing of Resource International’s proposal for a wastewater treatment system in April of 2000. Though many detailed questions were asked of Mayor Stew Willis and the Council, there were few expressions of opposition to the proposed purchase of the option, and not a few statements, of support for the purchase of the property, for its use as the wastewater treatment site, and for the opportunity represented by the purchase to create some permanent open space in the center of town.
The purchase agreement optioned by this move prices Avon Hall, the 18.33 acres, and various items of personal property at $1,000,000 and the wastewater treatment system had been priced at approximately $1.5 M in April of last year, bringing the cost of a wastewater treatment system for the Town to somewhere in the $2.5 M range.
