open Sat., Oct. 20

The tenth season in the “Smithsonian at Little Washington”concert series opens on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. when the Theatre at Washington, Va., and the Smithsonian Chamber Players present the Castle Trio playing music of Haydn and Beethoven.

To celebrate the milestone of ten years of chamber music from the Smithsonian the series opens and closes with a “Series Within a Series,” in which the Castle Trio will play two of Haydn’s last three great sets of piano trios, plus two of Beethoven’s ground breaking trios written while Beethoven was studying with Haydn.

The program on Oct. 20 includes the three trios Haydn dedicated to Mrs. Rebecca Schroeter, which were the last major works that Haydn completed during his second visit to England in 1795: Trio Op. 73, No. 1 in D Major: Op. 73, No. 2 in G Major (known as the “Trio with the Gypsy Rondo”); and Op. 73, No. 3 in F
