Lije Line screening ofjered
Life Line Screening will offer four preventive health screenings at the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue on Thursday, Oct. 25 Tests for stroke, aneurysm, heart disease and osteoporosis will be given. Pre-registration is required. Call 1-800-407-4557.
Activities at Ragged Mountain
Ragged Mountain offers unique Moonlight Hikes on or near the Full Moon during the cooler months of the year. These are usually to Old Rag Mountain, though sometimes other locations, such as Mary’s Rock and White Oak Canyon, (especially when the waterfalls are frozen), are destinations.
Participants should be fairly fit and bring layerable clothing and nourishment for themselves. Headlamps and flashlights are not used except in the case of difficult conditions such as thick cloud cover or injury, but should be brought nonetheless. Youths under 16 should have an adult companion.

Raffle for Disaster Relief
Local horsemen and the Horse N Hound in Flint Hill are sponsoring a raffle. Proceeds will be donated to the New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief fund, do International Association of Firefighters.
The prize is a Horseware brand Rhine heavy weight turnout blanket or a Horse N Hound gift certificate. Tickets are $5 and are available at Horse N Hound. Drawing is Oct. 20. Call 675-1650 for more information.
Pumpkin carving contest set
A pumpkin carving contest sponsored by the Rappahannock County 4-H Adult Leaders Association will be held on Oct. 31. Bring your carved pumpkin to the front of the Washington Arts Building on Gay Street (location of the Extension Office) between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Carved pumpkins will be judged in the following age divisions: 5-8 years, 9-12 years, 13-16 years, and 17 years and older.
Categories in the divisions will be the scariest pumpkin, the funniest pumpkin, and most original pumpkin. Winning pumpkins will receive a ribbon and recipients will receive a special “sweet” surprise. For more information call the Extension Office at 675-3619. All pumpkins must be removed by 9 p.m.
