Chris Bird has donated some walnut from his Horseshoe Hollow Farm off of the Fodderstack Road to be used to build a piece of furniture for the Child Care and Learning Center Auction on Nov. 10. Mr. Bird has a portable sawmill that he uses to custom cut lumber that people order for timber frame homes, siding, fence boards, and furniture.
He often uses standing dead, or wind-fallen trees. After turning the log over and over to cut slabs off of each side, he then cuts the wood into the size of pieces that are needed for the project. This wood is then either air dried in a barn or kiln dried in his kiln.
