For centuries, science fiction writers have been a step ahead of the developments in modem technology. For instance Jules Verne, in “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,” described the modem submarine long before its actual invention.

Now, like an episode out of “Star TYek,” modem medicine is creating many new methodologies for diagnosing medical problems and repairing broken bodies non-surgically.

Enter “interventional radiology.”

Interventional radiology is a relatively new medical discipline which combines the latest developments in body imaging with breakthrough skills in microsurgery.

Using technology like fluoroscopy or CT (“Cat” scan), doctors can see their way around the body while they guide tiny instruments to the site of repair.

Imagine taking tissue biopsies, repairing leaking blood vessels, or unclogging blocked arteries without a major incision. Twenty years ago it would have been science fiction, but today it is a reality.
