the work for physicians like Markert is in the area of vascular medicine. Because the body’s vascular system is like a series of tunnels, tiny catheters can be threaded throughout the duct work to get to blockages or damaged areas.
“Most people are familiar with the idea that a narrowing of the vessels of the heart can cause a heart attack, but many people don’t realize that this same narrowing occurs in other areas of the body,” said Markert.
Much of Markert’s work involves correcting a condition called Peripheral Vascular Disease. What heart disease is to the heart, PVD is to the extremities. Blockages in blood vessels serving the arms and legs can cause pain, and can lead to a serious loss of blood in those areas.
In the same way that famous underwater archaeologist Robert Ballard used remote imaging to explore the insides of the sunken Titanic, so Markert uses a remote viewing system to find his way through the body’s blood vessels.
