Allium Schubertii is a 12’ wonder: rose-pink spiky florets of varying length look like a fireworks ballet or sparkling fairy wands. The bulgaricum Allium, is a whole other sport, bearing pendulous clusters of ivory bells stained with deep pink and green —centered on a 3’ stalk. There are many other rounded globe Alliums available in blue, purple, white and pink with varying heights and diameters. They tuck in easily between other plants and add drama with their shape and height.
Frittillaria, lily family members are old-fashioned fairy tale kinds of flowers. From the 8’ checkerboard patterned (honestly!) meleagris to the almost gaudy 3’ Crown Imperial the sheer eccentricity of these plants amazes me.
