“This is the worst type,” Bell said, “because it doesn’t have early symptoms. It sometimes shows up on a Pap test, but not always. The difficulty is that when it is caught, it usually has advanced. There is no great screening method.”
The disease usually shows up in women in their 60s and older, though it could occur in younger women. The symptoms are a constant abdominal pain, bloating and discomfort. The treatment is a complete hysterectomy followed by chemotherapy.
“Chemotherapy has gotten much better,” Bell averred, “and we can put more people into remission longer.”
