Wrestling Coach Jim Wells, he said, provided the solution to the problem by offering a wrestling room as a donation.
Mr. Wells then handed out drawings of a proposed wrestling room addition to the high school that he said was designed to produce a State champion. He said that he would provide the necessary funding (estimated at $50.000) and seek donations from the community after School Board approval of the project.
As shown in the drawings by architect Douglas Burke of Middleburg, the wrestling room addition is a 44 by 54 foot structure built on to the southeast corner of the existing RCHS gymnasium. Mr. Wells said that he felt that the wrestling room could be constructed within six weeks -in time for the Nov. 12 opening of the wrestling season.
Superintendent Dr. David Gangel responded positively to Mr. Well’s offer, but he said that he has “never had the opportunity to guide the board in accepting a building,” and would Have to investigate the process with the assistance of the Board’s Facilities Committee.
