U-12 Girls
The Rappahannock Dynamite U-12 girls, sponsored by Ivy Hill Farm, defeated a young Culpeper team 5-0. The girls started out terribly; playing kickball instead of soccer—no passing, no running through the ball. It might have been the heat or the lack of practice, but, fortunately, they righted themselves. Morgan Flournoy started the scoring with a persistent effort up front. She shot three times, followed each rebound, and finally pushed it into the net past a defender and the goalie.
Kara Corbin played inspired ball all day. She scored goals number two and three, collecting a beautiful cross on one and chipping the ball over the goalie’s head on the second. The fourth goal was scored by Emma DoddHenze on a quick solid shot through the goalie. Emma is another player who has given 100 percent at every position she has played this season.
Lily Day, Emma DoddHenze and Ella Miller did a great job working the wings and crossing the ball to the center. All the girls kept pressure on the ball, keeping the ball in Culpeper’s end most of the game. Emma Hathaway had another great game, running through the ball and moving it quickly upfield.
She caught the goalie out of the box on one play, beat her to the ball, and took a shot. Kendra Settle and Ella Miller were in perfect position in front of the goal to trap the rebound and Kendra sank the shot for our fifth goal. Way to go Dynamite!
U-12 Boys
The Rappahannock U12 boys team, sponsored by Blue Water Builders, played well in a tough match up against a daunting Culpeper team. The first half was very close as the Rapp boys played solid defense and kept the other team at bay. Although Culpeper had many scoring opportunities, the score at halftime of 0-1 showed the true grit of our team’s spirit. •
