Is there any groundw'ater contamination getting through the soils to wells in the county9 A June 1992 study of household water quality in Rappahannock County evaluated the general water chemistry of 236 household water samples, with 195 of these samples submitted to further bacteriological testing. The results, there were some “nuisance constituents” resulting in staining; bad taste or odor; corrosion of plumbing systems, with a potential of raised dissolved copper and lead levels in water; and bacteria. Commercial filtering systems could solve these problems.
On the bacteriological testing, 40 percent tested positive for total coliform and 16 percent for fecal coliform. Fecal coliform bacteria in water indicate fecal contamination by warm-blooded creatures
