the transient nature of the experience. The sense of place in the work is so direct it’s transparent. This painting reveals that, in many ways, the landscape is life. Children, too young to be saddened by its passage, are gathering the dying tree’s fruits. And in the background the cycle of life plays out in haystacks gone round.
Barbara Heile Sherwood’s pastels of the eastern shore capture a soft light and sense of open space. “Late Afternoon Across the Channel” beautifully catches the interaction of land and water, light and color. The work captures the ethereal magic of the shore. Sherwood’s work distills a sense of place—a feeling at a moment in time.
All of the art in the show considers the landscape. Each artist brings a unique perspective. “5” is an opportunity to take a look at some beautiful art, and use the experience to reassess the world around us; its meaning and use.
