water flowing out of Rappahannock County. This is water they want to use. Here, a Virginia Citizen Water Quality Monitoring Program, created in 1998, sheds some light.
The local program carries out chemical and/or biological monitoring at ten sites along the Hughes, Rush, North and South Fork of the Thornton, two sites on the Thornton River itself, plus the Piney, Covington, and Jordan Rivers, and Battle Run within the county. The results to date? The quality of water flowing out of the county is ' in acceptable ecological condition: stream-dwelling insects thrive in the water, a good sign.
