Rapp Fire, sponsored by Blue Moon Cafe, came to play Saturday, and play they did! From Keeper all the way through to Strikers on top, a great team effort by all. The first half was full of excellent teamwork with a couple of significant individual efforts. Ibm Gillis at Keeper made 6 key touches preventing any score by the Madison team. Also from a defensive position, Ry Wellemeyer made several key defensive runs that all ended with a solid clear or out of bounds so far in the comer, no offense could be generated from it. Jake Rosenbaum played a complete solid half of fullback, several times meeting the play up near midfield and winning the ball away from Madison finishing with a crisp pass to the Fire Midfield.
Field coverage was a critical success factor in the first half. Andrew Kohler lead the way early on challenging deep in Madison territory. Every 50-50 ball had a Madison player well marked and in most cases, Rapp Fire won the 5050 ball. There was precise team passing all the way from a defensive clear up through the midfield all the way to the strikers. Osha Kondori played a great midfield on the left side, winning balls and making key passes to keep the momentum going towards the Madison end.
Juan Tisara displayed solid teamwork repeatedly, getting the Fire to work multiple give-n-go’s working the ball up both wings very efficiently. Coach Gillis had committed to silence on the sidelines and only had to be sat on twice by Coach Monroe. The objective being to get the on field Fire to communicate more amongst themselves. The result was an energy conserving efficient first half that left the match scoreless at the half. There was one scare where the fullbacks got caught up too far leaving Ry and Tom to cover a 3 on 1 situation. Luckily, the play was off-side! 0-0 at the half.
The second half was more of the same. Rapp Fire from first touch to final whistle of the match played their unselfish passing game. Communication increased and it was beautiful to watch. Ball ________ movement
