The Culpeper Cardiovascular Center and Culpeper Cancer Center will be located on the existing hospital campus in a three-story 9,000 square foot brick addition to the hospital. The Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, a full-service physical, occupational and speech therapy center, will be located west of the Rite-Aid Pharmacy on Business Route 29. This 25,000 square foot facility is where aquatic therapy will be provided in an indoor pool.
According to Lee Kirk, Culpeper Regional Hospital president and CEO, the need for the three centers became evident over the last several years as the population of the four counties in the hospital’s service area increased by 18 percent from 1990-2000 and the number of people retiring grew.
“The number of cardiac and cancer procedures performed at (our hospital) increased by 69 percent and 78 percent respectively since 1996,” he said.
“We anticipate heavy demand for heart, cancer and rehab services in the coming decades.”
Census data shows that persons 45-64 years of age are the fastest growing segment of the region’s population.
“As this segment of the population grows and ages, there’s an increased likelihood they will face heart disease, orthopedic injuries, cancer, or stroke, yet the space of our hospital’s facilities in these areas are critically limited,” said Ms. Hancock of the Culpeper Regional Hospital Foundation.
