Fall trail ride\ chili contest set

The Rappahannock Hunt will sponsor a fall trail ride and chili contest on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at Pine Rock in Reva. The ride will be a moderately paced one with jumps optional. Bring your best chili for the famous chili contest, prizes will be awarded. If you cannot bring chili, bring a dish to share, drinks will be provided.

LFCC to host exhibition

Lord Fairfax Community College's Fauquier Campus will host an art exhibition and opening of original oil paintings by artist Barbara Heile Sherwood. The exhibit, entitled “Close to Home” will open on Thursday. Oct. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. Ms. Sherwood holds a Bachelor of Arts in Painting and German language and a Masters of Fine Arts in painting from American University.

Her work has been on display at R.H. Ballard Fine Arts in Washington, the Middle Street Gallery in Washington, the Aldie Mill in Aldie and at the Blue Ridge Arts Council in Front Royal. The public is encouraged to attend the reception, where refreshments will be served and the artist will be present to discuss her latest work.

Beekeepers to meet

The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association will hold its October meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Culpeper Cooperative Extension Service building at the corner of Davis Street and South West Street, Culpeper.

The program will feature information for making a honey crop next year and other suggestions for wintering. For further information contact Kevin Lunsford at 439-0743.

Hiking series continues

Ragged Mountain Resource Center continues with the second Saturday hiking senes on Saturday, Oct. 12. Those interested should meet at Mountainside Market, 987-9100, on US 211 west of Sperryville between 8 and 8:30 a.m. and caravan to trail head for Broad Hollow and Pine Hill Gap Trails. Bring food and water for self and layerable clothing according to the weather of the day. Return mid-afternoon.
