The RCHS freshmen football team hosted their final home game last week before an enthusiastic crowd. The home fans weren’t disappointed either as they were treated to the first ever home victory.
The Panthers met the visiting Clarke County Eagle team and really took it to them. It was a beautiful day. Paul Gall, president of the RCSSA boosters, was back in his announcing chair and the Panthers gave him plenty to talk about. Before the smoke cleared, the Rapp team had totally dominated the visiting Eagles and sent them home with their wings clipped on the losing end of a 33 to 0 contest.
The game started with the Panthers kicking to the Eagles. The Rapp team was obviously fired up for this game and forced the Clarke squad to kick after their first three downs. The Panthers took over with good field position and wasted no time in letting the crowd know they wanted to win this final home game.
They drove down and Anthony Clinedinst scored on a 26-yard run off the blocking of left tackle Steven Butler. Clinedinst ran the extra-point attempt in and the Panthers led 8 to 0 early in the first quarter. After stopping the Eagles again, the RCHS freshmen team drove down inside the Eagle red zone.
Following a Nick Compton 15-yard run that put the ball on the Clarke 2-yard line, Rapp scored on a quarterback sneak by Dylan Corbin. Although the run for the extra points failed, Rapp led 14 to 0 and they were still in the first quarter.
The Panthers continued to dominate the Eagles on both sides of the ball. Midway through the second quarter, Corbin faked a handoff to Nick Compton off the right side and ran a bootleg around his left end. Some nifty running by Corbin and a few broken tackles later and he had run 35 yards into the end zone to give the Panthers a 20-point lead.
Clinedinst parted the uprights with a nice point after kick to make the score Rapp 21 and Clarke 0. Following the TD, the Panthers kicked off to the Eagles who were unable to move the ball on the ground. The Clarke quarterback attempted a pass on 3rd and 8, just to have free safety Dylan
