On Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m., the Second Friday at the Library series welcomes artist Tanya Richey and Col. John Bourgeois, retired director of the United States Marine Band, who will take us on an unusual multimedia tour of China, featuring Ms. Richey’s drawings and paintings and Col. Bourgeois’ photos of their 2001 trip down the Yangtze River and through other sections of the Hebei Province.
Col. Bourgeois, retired director of the United States Marine Band, hosted the 17 day Community Band of America China Concert Tbur, traveling as an official guest of the Chinese government and serving as conductor for three Community Band concerts performed at Chinese universities. Meanwhile, tour participant Ms. Richey found time to draw and paint along the way.
Their photos and artwork will take us through the world famous gorges of the Yangtze River, a trip which will soon be impossible once the Yangtze River Dam is completed. They will also take us to Shanghai, to Xi’an and the Qin Emperor’s tomb (guarded by a life-size army of terra cotta warriors), to Beijing's Forbidden City, to the Ming Tbmbs and yes, to the Great Wall.
