The first task for the new president and vice-president was organizing Spirit Week, which began this Monday. With a different theme each day, the students will undoubtedly be revved up by the time Friday’s Pep Rally rolls around. The Homecoming Dance, slated for this Saturday, will run from 7 until 11 p.m Alumni are encouraged to attend. For more information, please contact Mrs. Marsha Dowell at 635-8555.
• Students in grades six, seven and eight are organizing study groups for this year’s Battle of the Books. Wakefield Country Day School will once again host the Battle, which is held in early May. Students will be reading nineteen books, which they must have a thorough knowledge of, in order to compete against the students at eight other middle schools.
The students compete for a host of prizes, which include among other items, a $100 savings bond for each member of the winning team. Mrs. Teresa Mountjoy, fifth grade teacher at WCDS, coordinates the efforts of the students, with Mrs. Patty Kewer. Both women have
