Stoneledge, nestled high above the road, and anchored to the rock ridge that give it its name, is a contemporary house built from the stones of Estes Mill which was operating in Sperryville in the early 1800’s.
Walking from the parking area down to the house brings visitors through the lovely gardens and plantings. Old mill stones and stone walls provide visual impact, and the house seems to rise up from the very rock itself.
Blending in with its forested surroundings, with stone fences, huge outcroppings of boulders, and resident wildlife of bears, foxes, and birds, this 25 year old house commands impressive views of the historic homes'of Tiger Valley, and in the background, the wonderful shapes and varying hues of the Blue Ridge Moun tains.
Stoneledge is owned by Mike and Bette Mahoney, and they have taken advantage of the wonderful light, cathedral ceilings, and massive stone fireplace to showcase their eclectic collection of art and artifacts. Natives of New York and Chicago, they met at the University of Chicago, and both were federal employees in Washington DC before becoming Rappahannock County residents.
