That little bit of rain went a long way up in the hollow. The Rush River has some life to it these days, and I swear you can almost hear the grass growing. Ma Nature is just starting to show off, letting us know that we ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Beauty, our ancient black thoroughbred mare, is bouncing around the pasture like a colt. She knows that in the days to come, we will experience one of the greatest gifts of living: A Rappahannock Spring.

I’ve been kicking around like a colt, too. Ever since last week’s column announcing my intention to be a Congressional candidate, I have been as fired up as a highballing freight train. In the last week I have done a weekend “Cooter” appearance in Rocky Mount, N.C., had intestinal flu, then driven to Tennessee and back in a driving rain storm, (drove over the mountain in one of those classic Blue Ridge fogs, the kind where you have to hang out the window to see the highway lines), fielded about twenty press calls, written and received a couple of hundred e-mails, and went down to Richmond to lobby the Governor on behalf of my Confederate ancestors.

There was more, but I am already boring myself, so I’m sure you’ve had enough of that.
