If a robin has been sighted in the yard, it’s probably time to start preparing for spring.
The homecoming of these birds seems to symbolize that it is warm enough to start straightening up plant beds and cutting back plants.
A garden that has not been cleaned in a couple of years will need a more thorough cleaning than one that was freshly mulched last fall.
Beds that were cleaned last fall may only take a couple of hours to finish. If your beds are really messy, plan to spend a weekend on the cleanup — and take breaks often.

Start out by making sure you have everything you need. It can be frustrating to find out you are out of plastic bags when you have piles of leaves and debris everywhere.
