Home offices are becoming more popular, both in new homes and older homes, and there are things to keep in mind as you plan a home office.
Kelly Stieff, an interior designer with Design Solutions and member of ASID, said that although new homes routinely come with home offices now, they are not always big enough to work from home.
The study found that off many new-home foyers is a space good for household business, like paying bills, Stieff said. For someone who is telecommuting or running a business from home, bigger space is probably necessary.
The basement is a standard place to locate a home office. If the basement is unfinished, getting the office ready could include finishing the basement, adding special wiring for computers and other office equipment and adding the proper lighting.
