Paper dolls were used to sell many products such as flour, thread and chocolate. There were even songs about paper dolls. I don’t know the composer, but many of us remember the song, “I want a paper doll to call my own, a doll that other fellows can not steal. When I come home at night, he will be waiting. He’ll be the truest doll in all the world, to me”.
Collecting and preserving paper dolls has nevei been so popular. If you are interested in collecting them, remember paper dolls uncut appear to be more valuable than those that have been cut and played with.
The old original paper dolls are often on sale over the internet on E-Bay. You can find paper dolls in craft stores or toy stores in plastic. Their clothing “clings” which makes it easier to dress and play with.
As for me, I will reminisce about the many wonderful childhood hours I spent playing with such a simple toy that does not seem to be appreciated today with the replacement of television, electric games, VCR’s, radio and computer games.
