Spring sports finished up the scrimmage season and prepared to kick-off the regular season with non-district contests in every sport. Baseball was idle as the varsity prepared to travel to the eastern shore of the state for a game on Saturday, March 23.
Track had a couple of scrimmages and looked good coming out of the last one. Soccer saw the girls win and the boys tie as the two teams prepared for their season opener against Culpeper High School on Wednesday, March 20.
Softball saw action against several teams and looked like they were ready for the season to begin.
Baseball
Baseball was in the practice mode this past week as Coach Mick Strand prepared his guys for their initiation to the “Kindred-School” Program. That program began last year when the varsity softball team traveled to Carlisle, Pa. and stayed overnight, before playing a game on Saturday and returning home. The idea behind the program was to give our student/athletes exposure to other teams and schools way outside our playing area.
This year the varsity baseball team will travel to Chincoteague, Va., spend the night on Friday and play the high school there on March 23. Additionally, the junior varsity team will host a game here at home against the high school team from Paw Paw, W.Va. That game will be played at the home field behind the elementary school on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m.
Soccer
The girls scrimmaged Randolph Macon Academy on Tuesday, March 12 behind the high school. The home fans were treated to a nice game that resulted in a 5 to 1 victory for the Lady Panthers over, the visiting Lady Hornets from RMA.
