Cadet Leonard Mallonee Cowherd III, son of Leonard and Mary Ann Cowherd of Culpeper has been awarded the gold star at the U.S. Military Academy for the fall semester.
The five-pointed gold star is awarded to distinguished cadets in each class who have achieved an Academic Performance Score equaling or greater than 3.67.
Cowherd graduated from Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly in 1999. He is concentrating his studies in international and strategic history and plans to graduate from West Point in 2003. Cowherd will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
