Taylor said some people without children who entertain frequently want to remodel every five to eight years. Some people wait until the children have grown up and moved out before they want to change. And some clients are always changing something.

Older homes are a different case. Taylor said where she lives in Waterford, everyone who bought a house in the last 15 years has restored or remodeled something.

Current events can also effect the rate of remodeling. Taylor says there was an increase in calls after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. People are staying home more, which makes them realize they need to paint or get new carpet. Some of them have been in their homes for years, but are now deciding it’s time to spruce things up.
