built up. I built what the founder called a “lasagna garden” by laying wet newspapers on the ground and then building up layer after layer of peat moss, grass clippings, more peat moss, manure and on and on until I have a planting area that’s about 2 feet thick. Then all I had to do was to pull the top apart, plop a plant in and go on to the next spot.
It’s really quite easy, and the plants grew like crazy. I had to transplant a bunch of them several times because they were bumping up against each other. It was a terrific year for flowers at our home.
Now, however, I’ve set my sights a bit higher. I’m not content to plant just average, ordinary run-of-the-mill flowers. This year I’m aiming to grow some Bush Roses, Dwarf Wattle, Golden Everlastings, Poached Egg Plants, Swan River Daisys, Coral Creepers and — best of all — some W.A. Christmas Trees.
