Dominion Virginia Power last .week delivered on its promise to seek State Corporation Commission approval by the end of April for a 500,000-volt transmission line through the Piedmont.
Dominion submitted a six-volume, 1,016-page application on April 19 at the SCC’s headquarters in Richmond.
The application contains “an overwhelming amount of evidence proving the need for the line,” Dominion Vice President John Smatlak said in a telephone press conference last week.
He called it the “strongest transmission line proposal we’ve ever filed.”
Nonetheless, Rappahannock County officials remain opposed to the project.
County Administrator John McCarthy said the application was pretty much what he expected to see from Dominion, but he was disappointed that an option to put the line underground was “pretty much dismissed in their application.”
He added that the massive submission is the most elaborate SCC application he and many of his counterparts in other counties have ever seen.
